A riverside run through the heart of historic London, this 6km route links medieval fortifications, modern skyline views and one of the world’s most famous bridges.

Flat, scenic and unforgettable — just be ready to weave through tourists.

Route Overview

Distance: 6.0km
Style: Riverside loop
Start & Finish: Tower Hill Station
Surface: Fully paved pedestrian paths
Best Time to Run: Early morning

The Route

1️⃣ The Tower

Begin near the imposing Tower of London. This UNESCO-listed fortress sets the tone immediately.

Head towards the river — but keep your wits about you. This stretch gets crowded quickly.

2️⃣ Thames Path to The Shard Views

Follow the riverside east before looping onto the Thames Path. The skyline opens with striking views of The Shard across the water.

This zig-zagging pedestrian section offers one of the best urban backdrops in the country.

3️⃣ Millennium Bridge

Continue west towards the sleek Millennium Bridge, the steel suspension footbridge linking Bankside with the City.

Opened in 2000 (and famously closed shortly after due to swaying), it now offers a smooth crossing with superb river views.

4️⃣ HMS Belfast

Loop back east along the south bank, passing HMS Belfast, the preserved Royal Navy cruiser anchored permanently on the Thames.

It’s a striking midpoint landmark and a reminder of London’s naval history.

5️⃣ Tower Bridge Finale

As you approach the final kilometre, the view builds toward the iconic Tower Bridge.

Crossing here is the route’s highlight — Victorian engineering framed by modern skyline. From the bridge, you get classic postcard views in both directions.

Finish back near Tower Hill Station.
