A playful 5.2 km loop through Crystal Palace Park, combining historic curiosities, open parkland, and winding paths. This route stands out for its character — from Victorian dinosaurs to hidden mazes — making it one of London’s more unique and engaging 5K runs.

Route Overview

Distance: 5.2km
Style: Park loop with landmarks
Start & Finish: Bus stop near Crystal Palace Park
Surface: Paved park paths and compact gravel trails
Best Time to Run: Morning for quieter paths or midday for a livelier atmosphere

The Route

1️⃣ Red Lion Sculptures

Start from the bus stop and head toward the Red Lion Sculptures, easing into the run on flat, open paths. This opening section is straightforward and allows you to settle into rhythm while entering the wider park area.

2️⃣ Grand Central Walk

Follow the Grand Central Walk, a long, straight path cutting through the park. This is one of the most runnable sections — wide, flat, and perfect for building a steady pace. The tree-lined avenue gives structure to the route while keeping things visually consistent.

3️⃣ Crystal Palace Dinosaurs

Arrive at one of the route’s standout features — the famous Crystal Palace Dinosaurs. Dating back to 1852, these Grade I listed sculptures are among the earliest attempts to model prehistoric life. Running past them adds a genuinely unique moment to the loop.

4️⃣ Gorilla Statue & Park Trails

Continue past the Gorilla Statue and onto more winding park paths. This section introduces gentle variation in direction and terrain, keeping the run engaging without adding significant difficulty.

5️⃣ The Margaret Maze

Pass The Margaret Maze, a compact but interesting feature tucked within the park. It adds a sense of discovery to the route, even if you’re just passing by rather than exploring it fully.

6️⃣ Crystal Palace Bowl

Run past the Crystal Palace Bowl, a historic outdoor concert venue that has hosted major artists over the years. The paths here open up again, allowing you to settle back into rhythm as you complete the loop.

7️⃣ Closing the Run

Finish back at the bus stop, completing a varied and character-filled circuit. The final stretch is smooth and flat, making for a comfortable cooldown.
