The Route
1️⃣ Thames Path (North Bank)
Head towards the river and join the Thames Path along Victoria Embankment. This section is wide and surprisingly runnable early on.
The river sits constantly to your side — classic London atmosphere from the first kilometre.
2️⃣ Oxo Tower Wharf Views
Cross to the South Bank and pass Oxo Tower Wharf, where the skyline opens up beautifully.
The mix of historic buildings and modern glass towers gives this stretch real character.
3️⃣ Westminster Views
Continue towards Westminster Bridge, with postcard views of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament across the river.
Cross the bridge for one of the best angles back along the Thames.
4️⃣ Cleopatra’s Needle
On the return along the Embankment, you’ll pass Cleopatra’s Needle, the ancient Egyptian obelisk standing surprisingly modest among the trees.
A subtle but historic landmark.
5️⃣ Covent Garden Finish
Leave the river and finish through the lively streets around Covent Garden before returning to Waterloo Station.
It’s a busier urban finish compared to the riverside calm.
