Hampstead Heath & Parliament Hill 6.5km Hill Run

Written by:

A rolling loop through one of London’s most iconic green spaces, this 6.45km route blends open heathland, woodland trails and some of the best panoramic views of the capital.

It’s not flat — but that’s exactly the point.

Route Overview

Distance: 6.5km
Style: Circular heathland loop
Start & Finish: Hampstead Heath railway station
Surface: Mixed gravel, dirt paths & grass
Best Time to Run: Early morning or sunset

The Route

1️⃣ Into the Heath

From the station, head straight into Hampstead Heath. The city noise fades quickly as the terrain turns earthy and uneven.

Expect rolling paths from the outset.

2️⃣ Hampstead Mixed Pond

Around 1.2km in, you’ll pass the Hampstead Mixed Pond, one of the famous bathing ponds.

The water adds calm contrast before the route begins climbing more seriously.

3️⃣ Parliament Hill View

Climb towards Parliament Hill, rising to 98m above sea level.

The reward? One of the most recognisable skyline views in London — The Shard, the City and beyond all laid out ahead.

It’s worth a brief pause.

4️⃣ Kenwood House

Continue north towards the elegant Kenwood House, a 17th-century stately home set within landscaped grounds.

This section feels surprisingly rural for inner London.

5️⃣ Return via Parliament Hill

The loop curves back across open heath, climbing once more towards Parliament Hill before descending towards the station.

Expect rolling effort rather than a single long climb.

Why This Route Works

  • Proper elevation for London
  • Iconic skyline viewpoint
  • Wild, open terrain
  • Historic stately home landmark
  • Feels far from central London

It’s one of the best natural-feeling runs inside the capital.
