If you want to forget you’re anywhere near a city, this 5km loop through Sutton Park delivers.

Wide open heathland, woodland trails and historic lakes make this one of the most scenic and immersive runs in the West Midlands. It feels remote, expansive and properly outdoorsy — all within Birmingham’s boundary.

The Route

1️⃣ Park Car Park

Begin from one of Sutton Park’s main car parks and ease into the wide gravel paths. The opening stretch quickly moves you away from traffic and into open heathland.

It doesn’t take long before the city feels very far away.

2️⃣ Little Bracebridge Pond

Around 3km in, you’ll reach Little Bracebridge Pond, a broad expanse of water surrounded by open grassland and woodland edges.

It’s one of the park’s most picturesque areas — and often a mental high point of the run. The space here feels vast.

3️⃣ Keepers Pool

Continue through woodland trails toward Keepers Pool, a historic lake dating back to the 15th century. Originally constructed by damming a stream in the medieval deer park, it adds a real sense of heritage to the route.

This section is slightly more enclosed and atmospheric.

4️⃣ Closing the Loop

From Keepers Pool, follow the connecting park paths back toward your starting point. The final kilometre is smooth and runnable — ideal for either pushing the pace or enjoying a relaxed cool-down.
