Bournville & Cadbury Village 5.9km Heritage Loop

Written by:

Few runs in Birmingham combine history, architecture and green space quite like Bournville. This 5.9km route weaves through the famous Cadbury village, passing factory landmarks, quiet residential streets and canal-side paths.

Flat and easy to follow, it’s ideal for steady miles with a strong sense of place.

Route Overview

Distance: 5.9km
Style: Circular heritage route
Start & Finish: Bournville railway station
Surface: Roads, paths & light canal sections
Best Time to Run: Morning or weekend daytime

The Route

1️⃣ Bournville Station

Begin outside Bournville Station, instantly recognisable by its Cadbury-purple railings. From here, ease into the surrounding leafy streets — wide pavements and calm traffic make for a relaxed opening kilometre.

2️⃣ Elevated Footpath View

Around 5km into the loop, you’ll pass a charming elevated footpath overlooking the Cadbury factory and nearby sports fields. It’s a subtle highlight — slightly raised above street level with open views across the historic industrial site.

3️⃣ Cadbury Park

The route then flows through Cadbury Park, a compact but attractive green space complete with terrace and pavilion. It’s a great mental reset point before continuing the loop.

4️⃣ Bournville Baths & No.1 Lodge

Continue through the historic core, passing Bournville Baths, originally built for factory workers, and No. 1 Lodge, one of the original Cadbury factory entrance buildings dating back to the late 19th century.

These touches reinforce how purpose-built and carefully designed the village was.

5️⃣ Canal & Return

The final stretch brings you toward the canal near the station, offering a flatter, quieter section before closing the loop back at Bournville Station.

A smooth finish to a culturally rich run.
