The Route
1️⃣ Salford Sign
Start from the train station and head toward the Salford sign, a simple but recognisable local landmark.
The opening kilometre is flat and straightforward, giving you space to settle into pace before reaching the park.
2️⃣ Peel Park
Enter Peel Park, one of the UK’s oldest public parks. The wide, tree-lined paths make for comfortable running, and the open lawns create a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a calm section that works well for conversational pace or warm-up strides.
3️⃣ Parkrun Start/Finish Area
Run past the regular Saturday 9am parkrun start/finish point. If you’re here at the weekend, expect a lively atmosphere and plenty of fellow runners. The flat park paths make this a popular and accessible 5K venue.
4️⃣ Manchester Skyline View
Head toward the riverside edge of the park where the Manchester skyline begins to emerge. The contrast between green space and city towers adds character to the mid-section of the run.
5️⃣ River Irwell
Follow the path alongside the River Irwell. The riverside stretch is flat and smooth, perfect for maintaining rhythm before looping back toward the station.
6️⃣ Return to Finish
Complete the loop through park paths and riverside walkways, gradually returning to the train station. The terrain remains mostly flat throughout, making it an ideal route for steady pacing or a controlled tempo finish.
