Route Overview
Distance: 4.8km
Style: Hilly park loop with city viewpoints
Start & Finish: Blackheath Train station
Surface: Paved park paths and compact gravel trails
Best Time to Run: Clear mornings or sunset for skyline views
The Route
1️⃣ Royal Observatory Greenwich
Start from the train station and head into Greenwich Park, gradually climbing toward the Royal Observatory. Sitting high above the Thames, this historic landmark is famous for its role in astronomy and navigation — and for the Prime Meridian line.
The steady uphill approach makes this an honest opening effort, but the reward is a sweeping view of the London skyline stretching from Canary Wharf to the City.
2️⃣ Queen’s House
Descend slightly toward the Queen’s House, the elegant centrepiece of the Old Royal Naval College when viewed from the river. The architecture here adds a grand, historic feel to the route, and the open spaces allow you to settle back into rhythm after the initial climb.
3️⃣ One Tree Hill Viewpoint
Climb again toward One Tree Hill, one of London’s lesser-known but best viewpoints. From the crest, you’ll see the O2, Canary Wharf and central London rising beyond the Thames.
It’s a short but sharp effort to reach the top, making it ideal for building strength within a shorter run.
4️⃣ Return Through Greenwich Park
Loop back through the park’s network of wide paths, rolling gently downhill toward the train station.
The final kilometres are runnable and smooth, allowing for either a steady tempo finish or a relaxed cool-down while still enjoying views across the capital.
