The Route
1️⃣ Portobello Promenade and Beach
Start at the bus stop and head onto the Portobello Promenade, a long stretch of golden sand with easy city access.
The beach stretches for around 2 miles, making it perfect for warming up while enjoying sea views and the gentle breeze off the Forth.
2️⃣ Civerinos Slice, Portobello Beach
A short run brings you past Civerinos Slice, nestled in Nobel’s Arcade. You can see both indoor and outdoor seating, with views directly onto the Forth.
While it’s tempting to grab a slice, it’s a nice visual stop on your run and adds character to the seaside stretch.
3️⃣ Portobello Promenade Center
Reach the central promenade section, which tends to be busier. The wide paths here make it easy to find your rhythm, but the quieter ends of the promenade are ideal if you want less crowd interaction while running.
4️⃣ Portobello Beach Viewpoint
Run along the long stretch of the promenade, enjoying nearly continuous sandy beach and scenic waterfront views. The compact sand areas allow for optional side runs or cooling stretches along the shore.
5️⃣ Portobello Promenade Busy Section
Pass through the busier parts of the promenade again as you loop back. Take in the atmosphere of families, beachgoers, and cyclists sharing the path — a lively end-of-run experience.
6️⃣ Closing the Run
Return to the starting bus stop to complete the loop. Smooth, flat paths make it easy to finish strong and enjoy a final stroll along the seafront.
